Aldwinckle will join the session “More than a container: Innovations in ULD technology,” on Oct. 21, at 4:15 p.m. CET. Panelists will discuss:

  • Innovations in tracking, Internet of Things technology, phase-change materials and more;
  • How unit load devices protect temperature-sensitive cargo; and
  • How the right ULD makes handling dangerous goods safer.

Menzies Aviation relies on new technology for more efficient, sustainable and safer operations. In May, the company was one of the first ground handlers to be recognized by IATA’s Enhanced GSE Recognition Program, which aims to accelerate introduction of enhanced ground support equipment (GSE) technologies into daily operations. Enhanced GSE promotes safety and sustainability.

Menzies has also been expanding its cold chain operations; it leased a nearly 5,000-square-meter expansion to its cool chain and animal warehousing operations at Budapest Airport (BUD) in March.

“Investing in new technology will help keep track of ULDs for airlines, [and] improved types of material can offer sustainability and durability of the ULD,” Aldwinckle told Air Cargo Next

“ULDs can move across many locations in and around airports,” he said. “Keeping control of stock reduces loss and cost.”

Aldwinckle has been at Menzies for four years, serving in his current role for nearly a year and as head of U.K. cargo for more than three years. He previously held cargo management positions with Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Sharjah Aviation Services and British Midland International.
