Zimmer will join the session “Air cargo operating systems: Digitalization to improve booking, ecosystems and visibility,” on Oct. 22, at 1:30 p.m. CET. Panelists will discuss:

  • The role of digital booking platforms and automated payment systems;
  • Technology to maintain data integrity across the air logistics ecosystem; and
  • Methods for streamlining cargo ops and maximizing end-to-end visibility.

Lufthansa Cargo’s operations went fully digital this year, eliminating paper. The iCargo smart platform allows the carrier to conduct all air cargo business operations digitally, including sales, handling, warehouse management, revenue management and more. Customers can view shipments in real time during any point in the cargo’s journey and they can make any necessary changes through the platform.

“If your IT is not yet in the cloud, you better get going,” Zimmer told Air Cargo Next. “You’ll not only need the scalability of the cloud in a world of digital sales, [but] you also want to benefit from the seamless integration of platform services like AI.”

Zimmer has been with Lufthansa Cargo for 22 years, serving as process and quality manager, business analyst, team lead for IT delivery sales and reservation systems, and head of application development and operations sales, before taking his current position in January 2023.
